    buchanan-smith

I've long been a fan of Peter Buchanan-Smith's simple yet sophisticated & nostalgic designs. I even subscribed to Paper Mag while he was creative director because I loved what he was doing with the magazine (that Kelly Osborne cover is my favorite).  So lovely and always a reminder that less is more...

    a clever little logo

I love clever and simple logos like this one designed by Remo Caminada. He's also the genius brain behind this amazing business card.

    jaime oliver

I know these have been posted around many a blog but I also just love the packaging for Jaime Oliver's products designed by Pearlfisher. I'm very guilty of judging products by their packaging...

    redesign: gatorade

I really don't care for gatorade but I found this bottle in the kitchen this morning (a few of the guys from As Tall as Lions stayed here after the show) and I was really impressed with the new packaging design. Because I don't drink it I have no idea if it's been this way for a while but I have a feeling it's fairly new.. I just checked out the gatorade website and it looks like there's a whole slew of new packaging designs..all very nice and bold. anyway, I post it because I feel like big American companies are finally starting to sift through the mess of drop shadows, gradients, and the need to cram as much as they can onto the label and are going for a more clean, simple look for their products (pepsi?)... something European brands have been perfecting for a while. This is so much better. I almost want to drink it.

speaking of logos.. my favorite logo site is Brand New. It features before and after logo redesigns and the comments from designers are pretty fun to read. They like to rip everything to shreds and get all bent out of shape about things like kearning and which typeface was used.

oh, and that bright yellow wall is our bathroom. it wakes me up in the morning.. and gives my skin a lovely yellow-y hue (something I did not think of when I was painting it :)

    frasier fir

this is my favorite soap. the scent is perfect and it reminds me of being at my family's cabin in the adirondack mountains with fresh pines all around.. and Christmas. I love all of the packaging from Thymes but I think this one is my favorite as well. I'm not sure if this picture does them justice but the illustrations are really beautiful and they look a little retro.

the image is from Duffy & Partners, the Minneapolis firm who designed all of the packaging for Thymes.

    murder books!

I love the titles to these books that were published by Graphic Books in the 50's. hilarious. I'm looking at this style of design & illustration as one of my inspirations for Band Marino's new album art. I'm also thinking about posting the project in stages from my inspirations to the final project. we'll see.. that could end up feeling a little too personal but it also could be a lot of fun.

    RIFLE: africa booklet

new work.. It's an information guide (designed like an old field guide) about humanitarian trips to Africa through Summit Church in Orlando. I designed the layout as well as illustrated the little stamps to go in it.
